1. Match the Machine to Your Slab Sizes, Not the Other Way Around
Start with your real production: what slab sizes do you cut most often, in granite, marble, quartz, or porcelain? Table size and Z-axis travel should be sized to that, with enough headroom for the occasional oversized job — not maxed out for a job you take once a year.
2. Decide How Many Axes You Actually Need
A 4-axis bridge saw covers straightforward cutting and basic mitring. A 5-axis CNC bridge saw adds the ability to execute compound-angle mitred returns and waterfall edges in a single setup — valuable if waterfall islands and complex edge profiles are a regular part of your work, less critical if your production is mostly straight cuts.
3. Water Delivery and Dust Control
Multi-point water delivery directly at the blade keeps cutting temperatures down and controls silica dust — non-negotiable for granite, marble, and quartz alike. Ask specifically how water is delivered at full blade depth, not just at the surface.
4. Blade + Waterjet Combination Machines

An integrated vacuum lifter reduces the number of times a slab is manually handled between loading and cutting, which directly reduces breakage risk on expensive material.
7. Who Installs, Trains, and Services It
This is the step shops skip and later regret. Ask specifically: who does the installation, is the technician factory-trained on this exact machine line, how is operator training structured, and how quickly can a service call actually be answered in your province. A great machine with poor local support is a worse investment than a good machine with excellent support.
8. New vs. Used
A well-documented used machine with verified service history can be a smart entry point; a new machine gives you the latest control software and a full warranty. Either can be right depending on budget and risk tolerance.
